    It's... definitely abstract...I'll say that...

Thought of the day: U of M does have a ballroom dance club. And weekly dance events. And lessons. But they tend to favor East Coast swing. Still though... it might be worthwhile to brush up on a few variations. Especially with partners who aren't going to see me again for months...heh heh...

Laziness has taken its hold on the Three. Ah, yes...

Random nagging question of the day: You're playing euchre (a spades-like game for those of you not in Michigan), and after a few tricks you know that one of your opponents is out of clubs (not trump). The other two you have no idea about. So... is the jack of spades any more likely to be in your club-less foe's hand than, say, your partner's?

Uh, I don't get it. That's all the intellectual capacity I have for today. Perhaps I'll come up with something semi-entertaining to say this afternoon.

Otherwise, I'm tired. ugh. If you want to help entertain ME, IM me at Darth Mile or Basileus Daueid or send me an email at runlikeyoustolesomething@hotmail.com

    <rant id="supes" title="freakin' hah-vud">

Well, I'm sure it would of great consolation to everyone to know that I actually went into work today (for the first time this week) AFTER my two hours of free waltzing lessons (much of which was spent attemping -- and I dare say FAILING miserably -- to pull off complicated pivots and tango moves with stodgy, rickety old women whose range of motion is little more than that of statues).

What was even worse was doing the cross-step waltz (1-2-3, 1-2-3, etc. for those of you who don't know the waltz beat) to swing music (1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8) or techno (1-1-1-1-1-1). This is actually a strange one-step fox-trot cross-step amalgation that consists of doing the cross-step waltz NOT as a waltz (strong down on the 1, light up on 2 and 3) but with even, evenly-spaced steps. It's interesting and quite fun and apparently you can do a lot with it (go back and forth between waltzing and lindy-hop, for example)....but that's assuming you're dancing with someone who has a clue....which -- most of the time -- I WASN'T. Ah well, such is life, full of many little disappointments.

On a side note, I just purchased $60 worth of CD-ROMs that come chalk full of instructional videos for a myriad of lindy-hop variations. I will be move-less no longer! Such are the lengths to which I will go to retain my status as "King of Swing" (and to continue to impress the ladies, of course!).

I'm sure that there are some of you to whom this entire rant has been absolutely meaningless drivel. All I can say is, pity yourself (and not me anymore): you don't know what you're missing. There's a world of amazing experiences in social dance -- especially the waltz -- that you will never find anywhere else. Go find yourself a class to join, or better yet -- if you're of that age -- get admitted to Stanford and then spend your undergrad years learning to dance. HA! Find THAT at freakin' Hah-vud or Princeton or Yale (although Yale does have thieves as administrators....COOL!).

I agree. I'd much rather be getting two hours of free waltz lessons than sitting here in this cube... what little grasp I had of social dance is slipping away so fast... and there's nowhere to dance around here... the locals prefer "gyrating to a beat" at places like "Wild Woody's in Windsor! Where the legal drinking age is 19!" (no thanks)

Went to go see The Sum of All Fears last night at this one-house theatre in Plymouth. Plymouth actually has a town square (well, ok, a town triangle) and a real downtown, and it's the kind of place where unruly teenagers actually congregate outside the local convenience store, like you see in those movies about life in the 50's. Wow...

The movie was pretty good, high on the explosions count, high on the intellectual crime-political drama scale, and thankfully low on the mushiness. (Although Ben Affleck's girlfriend was standing next to a window that blew out in a nuclear explosion and still somehow escaped unscathed, spent the day in emergency triage, and yet had perfect hair and makeup for her reunion with Affleck. Hmm...) I'm just glad I don't live in a country with militant leaders like that. Oh, wait. I do... d'oh!

CWW at 12:01 AM, CWW ranted: | [rant back: ]

Agreed, I am a moron. Dang, dave you get free dance lessons and you're asking for pity... doesn't work, sorry.

Ok so I have nothing to say about today's comic except that it isn't funny but that's the way we talk... honest.

in other news, I was talking to one of my old friends (from WAY back... before college... before High School really) and so I hadn't spoken to her for over a year... and we were chatting along and she kept mentioning this Ben person... who I knew was not a mutual friend... so while I was scanning my mental yearbook... I finally pluck up enough guts to ask her outright who this Ben person is... and apparently she's engaged to him and they are getting married in LESS THAN A MONTH. How freaky is that? So there's my lesson of the day: STAY IN TOUCH with your friends... otherwise you don't know when they'll spring something like that on you....

    OK...

Cheng is tired and has laundry.

Cheng is a moron. Cheng is a moron. Cheng is a moron.

He did say to repeat after him, right? Sorry for the absence, but this is Hell Wee...uh WALTZ Week at Stanford. So I got roped into helping out with the week-long waltz dance camp being put on by the stanford dance division (I'm in charge of "refreshments" and random setting-up type stuff; then I also saw that there were some classes I wanted to take, too....oh yeah, I'm still supposed to be training and getting in eight hours per day at/of work. I won't even actually get to work for the FIRST TIME THIS FRIGGIN' WEEK until Wednesday afternoon; I've just been doing my best to work from my room with its magical disappearing floor (disappearing beneath piles of clothes and stuff that is). In any case, my daily schedule looks something like this:

6:00 am - wake up, run/bike, shower, eat breakfast....
7:30 am - start working from home
    11:00 am - cross-step waltz class
12:15 pm - swim at avery pool
    1:30 pm - cross-step waltz class
2:30 pm - actually go to work
8:00 pm - finally get off of work
8:30 pm - go set up refreshments for evening waltz/dance
11:00 pm - tear down refreshments after dance
midnight - go home and DIE.

    so everyone: pity me.

It's been almost two days since my last update. I'm not an addict. I can stop whenever I want. Really...

As I lay awake trying to sleep last night, it occurred to me that there's probably a miniseries (or at least a story arc) in my job somewhere. The MIS Department From Hell maybe. It's like a real-life Dilbert here. Or maybe an expose on the killer ants crawling up my coworker's desk...

I went up to East Lansing on Sunday to visit friends. Ah, it's so nice to see a real college town. (And no, Palo Alto isn't. It's like the anti-college yuppie town. Kind of like Novi, but Novi's only yuppie-wannabe.) Complete with not one, but two Meijers. And a really cheesy "fresh mex" fast food place we went to. I don't know where these people get their idea of Mexican from, but it sure ain't Mexico...

So Dave really is "everything-man" cus he really is "SUPER Dave" and he does a heck of a lot of stuff... and yeah, I think I probably do embarass him a lot. Yeah... and I thought it was funny that I probably would have thought that was a funny thing to do to Dave... but the slightest bit of retrospect shows that I'm am really lame and have no sense of humor... yeah. So I'm rambling and I sound really stupid which is a good indication that I should be going off to bed. I know that its only 11 but what the hey, I have work tomorrow.

Repeat after me. Cheng is a moron. Cheng is a moron...

Oh, the grass outside is yellow,
And the breeze is just too mellow.
But since I'm not in a dorm
Let it storm! Let it storm! Let it storm...

Some beautiful cloud-to-cloud lightning last night, and thunder that literally rattled the house. It was great...

It's been a while since we've heard from Dave. Why is this? Possible theories:

    1. Dave has been abducted by a secret government organization.
    2. Dave has a girlfriend. Maybe he has better things to do with his nights than us losers.
    3. Dave doesn't have Net access at XOX.

Who really knows? It could be a massive conspiracy...
